01 / Context
What this project is about.
Europe's Values Trail invites people to reflect on the shared foundations of the European Union. The website supports this physical experience with background information, resources and an overview of the information boards.
The project addresses people with very different levels of prior knowledge. Content therefore needs to be credible, welcoming and free of unnecessary barriers.
02 / Challenge
Clarity across many requirements.
Abstract ideas such as human dignity, freedom, democracy and the rule of law need an understandable introduction. The design also had to respect the project's factual character.
The relationship between the physical trail, individual boards and further information had to remain clear on desktop and mobile devices.
The guiding question.
How can a website encourage reflection and organise complex European values so visitors want to explore further?
03 / Solution
A structure with a distinct point of view.
A nature-inspired opening connects the subject directly to the trail. A short introduction is followed by visual boards leading to individual values and further resources.
Generous spacing, calm colours and understandable navigation give the content room. Additional languages and resources can be added within the same structure.
04 / Insights
Complex values made understandable.
The project uses the trail as its guiding theme. The opening creates an atmosphere, then presents individual values and resources in a clear overview.

Orientation
A brief introduction explains the purpose and approach.
Values boards
Subjects are explored visually rather than abstractly.
Further content
Resources invite deeper exploration and use.
